Born and raised in Northern Maine with roots in Rowena, New Brunswick, Canada, Karen's journey has been marked by both personal and professional experiences that have shaped her into a compassionate and authentic advocate for survivors of trauma.

Graduating with both her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Clinical Social Work from the University of Maine in Orono, Maine, Karen embarked on a multifaceted career dedicated to serving individuals in need. Her professional repertoire includes roles as a case manager, advocate, mental health therapist, service chief, and department chief across various domains such as emergency services, inpatient psychiatry, and medical social work. Notably, she has also served within a federal government social work capacity for 17 years.

Karen's expertise extends particularly to the realm of trauma, where she specializes in supporting survivors of childhood abuse, sexual assault, domestic violence, and other traumatic events. Her dedication to this cause is underscored by her certification in Complex Trauma and her extensive experience working with military sexual assault survivors, combat veterans, and those grappling with moral injuries.

In addition to her clinical work, Karen is a prolific author, speaker, and transformational coach. As the Founder and CEO of Heal Thrive Dream, LLC, she leads a mother-daughter company on a mission to empower trauma survivors to heal from past wounds, cultivate thriving relationships, and pursue their dreams for the future.
